Dr. Josephine McCaskill entered the field of nursing in 1975, graduating from Olive-Harvey Community College in 1978 with an Associate of Arts Degree with Honors and 1979 Associate of Science Degree with honors Nursing. Her first employment was the University of Chicago where she excelled in her role. She worked on all medical-surgical units as well as the Emergency Department. She was appointed Assistant head nurse for the gastroenterology unit and stayed at the University for 15 years. She received her Bachelor of Nursing Degree from San Diego State University in 1994 and her Master of Science in 1998 with her concentration in Nursing Education from Governors State University and completing a Doctorate in Health Science in 2007 from Nova Southeastern University.
Dr. McCaskill began her career in Nursing Education in 1998 being appointed as Assistant Professor in the Department of Nursing at Olive-Harvey Community College. In 1998, after her first year at the Olive-Harvey she was given the opportunity to work at the Dona Ana Branch Community college under the New Mexico State University system. Dr. McCaskill attended DePaul University School of Nursing in 2001 to receive her post-master certification as a Family Nurse Practitioner completing in 2002 and becoming board Certified in 2003 and remains Board certified with ANCC.
Dr. McCaskill has worked in some very prestigious schools of nursing such as St. Xavier University, DePaul University, Bowie State University and Governors State University. Dr. McCaskill returned to full time clinical practice in 2008 for the Department of Veterans Affairs while remaining active as an educator part-time as an adjunct faculty. Dr. McCaskill has practiced and is still actively licensed in the states of Alaska, California, Illinois, and Maryland.
Dr. McCaskill has had an exciting and rewarding career in the nursing profession and continues to have the same passion for nursing she had when entering nursing school in 1975. She has had 41 wonderful years of providing care and continues to assist Nursing Students in accomplishing their career goals.
