Olivet Nazarene University's Master of Arts in Professional Counseling (MAPC) program in Hong Kong prepares graduates for work as counselors and in a variety of other human service professions. Most central to the program is the belief that the profession of counseling is, first and foremost, an avenue of service.
The MAPC program is designed to prepare graduates for licensure in the State of Illinois. The National Counselor Examination may be taken upon graduation and, if passed, will result in the license of Licensed Professional Counselor. Once graduates complete two years of supervised clinical practice, they are eligible to apply for the National Mental Health Counselor Examination. When both exams are passed, applicants are granted the license of Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor in the State of Illinois, which allows for independent private practice in Illinois.
The three-year* MAPC program is tailored to your unique needs as an adult learner. Classes meet one evening per week. While enrolled in the practicum and internship, students must devote additional time during the week for individual and group supervision. Students will complete a 100-clock hour practicum and a 600-clock hour internship in order to fulfill the requirements of the program. An entering class remains together throughout the program.
* If students have taken PSYC 467 - Psychotherapy and PSYC 461 - Counseling Process and Techniques at Olivet, or, if the applicant can provide evidence of one full year of supervised clinical practice in a work setting, he or she may be eligible to complete the program in 24 months. The program director will make the final determination of eligibility for the accelerated format.
