Dr. David Van Heemst started teaching because he wanted to encourage students to seek out the truth and to explore all of the ways that God might use them to change the world; he does just that every single day at Olivet Nazarene University, where he serves as a Professor of Political Science and the Chair of the History and Political Science Department. But, surprisingly enough, he did not intend to ever be a part of higher education.
Dr. Van Heemst began his college career with the notion that he would become a high school history teacher, but while studying abroad during his junior year, he experienced something that would forever change his world and discovered how little he knew about this world and it was that experience that gave him the drive to seek out his own truths and develop a stronger personal understanding of the world.
Perhaps that is why he has such a strong passion for the Ed.D program. Dr. Van Heemst has been involved in the Ed.D program for the better part of a decade and is inspired by what this new online format can bring to the table. What he looks forward to most in this new digital format, is the potential it brings to students to play a small part in changing the lives of students so that they may go on and continue to change the world.
Dr. Van Heemst and his wife April are the proud parents or multiple sets of multiples! Their twins, Maggie and Ellie, as well as their triplets, Annika, Jessica, and Elizabeth, are all homeschooled.
