Karen  Higginson has been in education for over 25 years. Her credentials include a BA in Special Education, MA in Reading, and an ESL Endorsement. She is also a National Board Certified teacher in Literacy.

Karen is an adjunct instructor in the Olivet graduate programs for candidates seeking a Reading or an ESL endorsement. In addition, she is currently working as a Reading Specialist in Barrington. She also leads a cohort of candidates seeking National Board Certification. Karen presents at the Illinois Reading Conference, ASCD, and the Aurora ESL Summit. She is a member of the Illinois Reading Council.

Over the course of her career, Karen’s roles have included reading specialist, instructional coach, ESL Resource teacher, and teacher of various grades PreK-5.

Karen and her husband, Ed, have four adult children and one granddaughter. They love to babysit and travel. Karen is an avid reader of both professional and personal books. She belongs to a book club and is  a member of a Bible Study.
