Laura J. Tucco is a Certified Family Nurse Practitioner and Clinical Nurse Specialist with 35 years experience caring for all age groups of patients.  Her clinical work has been in pediatrics, emergency, trauma, critical care, transport and family medicine.  She has held teaching appointments throughout her career.  In the early days of her career, she worked in pre-hospital care as a paramedic as well as a nurse. Laura has lived and worked in four states in the United States as well as Australia and New Zealand. 

Laura completed a Bachelor of Nursing Science degree in 1981.  She was graduated with a Master of Science in nursing degree from the University of California San Francisco in 1995; her major was Critical Care/Trauma/Emergency Clinical Nurse Specialist with Minors in HIV and Education.  Her Post Graduate Certificate in Tertiary Teaching was completed in 1995 while on faculty at the School of Nursing Sciences at James Cook University in Australia.  She obtained a Post Master’s Family Nurse Practitioner Certificate program in 2006 at the University of Illinois.  In 2015, she achieved a PhD degree from the University of Phoenix.  Her doctoral dissertation study evaluated patient satisfaction with nurse practitioner care in retail health clinics.

Laura is a Charter Member of the Illinois Society for Advanced Practice Nursing.  She has held three Executive Board Member positions with ISAPN including Region Two and Seven Chair as well as Treasurer from 2011 through 2013.  She currently serves on the Finance Committee and Political Action Committee.  Besides ISAPN and the American Association of Nurse Practitioners, Laura is a lifetime member of the Emergency Nurses Association.  She was inducted into Sigma Theta Tau International Nursing Honor Society in 1993 while at UCSF.  She remains a member of the Alpha Eta Chapter.

Currently Laura is a Family Nurse Practitioner with MinuteClinic, the largest retail health clinic system in the United States.  She provides primary care for patients in a private family medicine practice.  She is Adjunct Faculty for Olivet Nazarene University and has taught NRSG665 and 667 in the Family Nurse Practitioner program.  She has accepted the role of Course Coordinator for NRSG667 Acute and Episodic Adult and Geriatric Therapeutics and Management.  In all of her work, Dr. Tucco remains committed to advocating for nurse practitioners and the nurse practitioner role as well as the development of the next generation of nurse practitioners. 

Laura is the pet parent of a border collie named Brogan and a miniature Australian shepherd named Snickers.  Her time away from work is spent with friends, family and exploring the world.  Brogan and Snickers are happy to accompany her on these adventures whenever possible.
