A Guatemalan by birth, a licensed architect and a Fulbright Scholar, Dr. Gustavo A. Crocker will deliver the keynote address at Olivet Nazarene University’s 101st traditional undergraduate Commencement ceremony. In June 2013, he was elected as the 41st general superintendent of the Church of the Nazarene at the 28th General Assembly in Indianapolis, Ind. Fluent in four languages, he has authored several books and articles in Spanish and English, and his writings have been translated into more than 20 languages.
“I’ve never seen a lawn mower in a Spanish-speaking country. Do my students really need to learn how to say ‘I mow the grass’ in Spanish? Their language study needs to apply to what they want to know and do.” These are the words of a dedicated, experienced educator: Linda (Sievert) Egnatz ’81.
From her 30-plus years of experience as a high school Spanish teacher, Linda realizes she needs to teach her students practical uses of language that apply to their lives. That is one of the many demonstrations of her commitment to being the best teacher she can be.
